LAHORE:16 November:The University of Health Sciences (UHS) has displayed the selection lists of candidates to be admitted in MBBS in 11 public sector medical colleges of the Punjab on open merit basis and against seats reserved for the under-developed districts and the disabled students.
The lists which are available on UHS website www.uhs.edu.pk were displayed after a division bench of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday dismissed the petitions filed by some candidates challenging the entrance test weightage criteria of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council for admission to medical/dental colleges of the country.
The bench, headed by Justice Chaudhry Shahid Saeed, had earlier barred the UHS from implementing the merit list till the final decision of the case.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, a UHS spokesman said that merit had been higher this year as compared to that last year. A total of 6,717 applications were received, from October 05 to October 15, from eligible candidates for admission against 2,842 open merit, 61 under-developed districts and 20 disabled candidates’ seats.
The merit list was prepared giving a weightage of 10 per cent to matriculation, 40 per cent to intermediate and 50 per cent to entrance test marks, according to the criteria laid down by the PMDC.
The King Edward Medical University (KEMU) Lahore remained the top choice of the candidates with merit for the college closing at 88.2372 per cent. Allama Iqbal Medical College (AIMC) Lahore remained at the second position with last merit of 86.4009 per cent. The news.
