Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology Islamabad was established in November 2002. The university is using Urdu language for communicating and teaching. The university started teaching with taking over two colleges, Federal Urdu Science College Karachi and Federal Urdu Arts College Karachi.

Parliament had laid the foundation of University of Karachi as a federal university in 1951. The university spreads over 1200 acre of land. University of Karachi is one of the largest universities in the country. All colleges of Karachi are affiliated with eight faculties of this University. It offers programs such as M.S, B.S, PhD and M.phil under five faculties of Islamic Learning, Administrative Science and Management, Pharmacy, Science and Arts. The classes of these courses are conducted in the campus and it examines the students who are going to take admission in its affiliated colleges under faculties of Law and Education and Medicine.

It has two satellite campuses; Abdul Haq Campus at Baba-e-Urdu Road, Karachi and Islamabad Campus near Zero Point, Islamabad. Approximately 13,500 students are pursuing degrees primarily in technical fields, such as electrical engineering, computer science, Urdu, management science and economics.[1]

Urdu College was first established by Baba-e-Urdu Maulvi Abdul Haq in 1949. Then this college was given the status of a University in 2002. The Federal Urdu University was established on 13 November 2002 by presidential order, and is the first university in Pakistan to teach primarily in theUrdu language. It was established by merging the Federal Urdu Arts College and the Federal Urdu Science College, both in Karachi. President Pervez Musharraf was the university's first chancellor. Currently President Asif Ali Zardari and Professor Muhammad Qaiser are the chancellor and vice-chancellor of the university respectively.
